Love to Bake

One thing I love to do is bake and food just tastes better when served on cute ceramics! Aqua & bright red look fabulous together. The cake pedestal is painted with a raised clay design. All pieces are available for purchase on my Etsy shop.

The recipe:

Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup butter ( 2 sticks)
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1 cup butterscotch chips

Mix together flour, baking soda, and cinnamon.
Beat together butter, brown sugar, and sugar until light & fluffy.
At low speed add flour mixture until blended, fold in oats & butterscotch chips.
Chill 1 hour.
On a silpat drop 1 inch balls ( I use a melon baller) two inches apart and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and center soft & chewy.

These are the best oatmeal cookies I have had.

Tip: Only bake what you plan to eat; there is nothing like freshly baked cookies. I usually bake one tray about 9-12. With the rest of the dough scoop into balls lay flat on a tray and freeze about 20 minutes. Put frozen dough balls in an air tight bag and place back in the freezer. Label bag and bake as needed.
Make an extra batch and always have fresh baked cookies ready to go in no time.

Kitchen Conversation

What you may not know about me is I love to cook and enjoy having parties.  I have a great open  kitchen which is where all my friends & family hang out when they stop over.
I started painting fun 6 inch trivets or as I like to call it, "useable art", because its ceramic, its food safe and I can always use it for something besides decorative shelf art. For my kitchen I love quotes by Julia Child and other inspiring chefs.

The space above my pantry door looked empty and I wanted to add something. I have seen the word Pantry used but that wasn't what I was looking for. The word my family uses most in our kitchen is "delish" and that was a perfect fit. I painted the ceramic letters in black and white polka dots.

Week : January 20-25

Last weekend we spent a snowy ( blizzard like!) three days in Chicago for my husbands birthday. This year he wanted to attend  the boat show. The drive up began in a snowstorm, as many are experiencing one of the worst winters in years.

My screened in porch is a perfect example of the blowing snow and cold temperatures.

We arrived in Chicago to partly cloudy skies. Here is the hotel view:

Dinner at the Goose Island Brewery:
Beer cheese dip appetizer ( a must)

Good burgers:

My favorite Beet & feta salad:

And of course amazing beer:

Unfortunately our trip is over and its back to my studio or as my friends refer to it " Garage Girl"
My list for the week included:
1. finish up tennis bowl & plate order
2. birthday plates
3. Paint new items for home & garden show.

Have a look!

Tennis bowl & plate set orders ...18 bowls & 3 plate sets!
                                   Turned out super cute!

Birthday plate orders:

Heart pedestal plate & measuring cups; Could be for Valentine's Day or just because I love to cook!

Pet Urn for someone's dog:(

New spring items for The Home & Garden Show March 1, in downtown Cincinnati. I am in a booth with my friend Chris who makes wonderful dip mixes, so I am painting great serving pieces to accompany some of her items. Who doesn't love great dips at a party especially in beautiful ceramics. Check out my new dip chillers.

Flip Flop chip & dip!
Grab a cracker from the foot & dip it in the toes!

Three section condiment, nut, candy etc. serving piece.
I love the aqua color, you will see me paint this many times over. I also like the look of a simple raised black & white polka dot. I serve with mostly white platters but I add cute bowls & small serving pieces in pretty colors & designs. My tip is to buy all white large platters from Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Old time Pottery etc, and spend a little extra on cute small pieces to accent.
Here is a perfect example, check out this post from one of my favorite blogs, "StoneGable"

Two piece dip chillers, ice in the outer pot, dip in the inner. A genius idea especially for outdoor parties.
